Uhm.

...a flying saucer just landed outside my house. I heard this weird noise and then something bumped into the porch and I squealed. I got up to look out the window and there is this THING there against the steps all lit up in red lights. It's small and probably remote controlled, which means a human is attached to it somewhere out of sight, so no way in hell am I going out there to check. That seems like a nice way to lure someone out of their house (lolparanoid). But I am not kidding. There is an alien spacecraft replica outside. It landed at my doorstep. It has flashy lights.

Why me, you guys? Seriously. What in the freaking hell?!

...I am going to go look and see if it's gone. If I see a face out there I might shit my pants. Wish me no monsters!

So. It's gone now. I didn't hear anyone come up the drive, and it's gravel so if a person came to retrieve it they had to walk on the grass. Which means they were trying to be sneaky. WHICH I AM SORRY, BUT I DO NOT LIKE!!

I don't even know. I swear to shit I'm not crazy though. I'm really not. Well. Not about this. I wouldn't put it past one of the KAOS people to have come to show us their new toy, but I still find it unsettling. I checked all the locks. YOU SHALL NOT PASS, SAUCER OWNER!

EDIT: I just looked at my 'this shit actually happens' tag (which is amazing reading, by the way because even I forget the weird crap that happens to me but...yeah) and I found the entry where I ran into the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, literally, and then acted like a dick. It's here and it makes me laugh still!

My family friends and acquaintances in Japan are fine, as far as I know. My friend in Hawaii is fine too. He lives very close to the beach, but when he went to stay at his grandmother's in the middle of the island to keep away from the surge.

Now I just hope my California/Washington/Oregon people are okay.

I haven't slept. I boiled water and watched Most Haunted and read news reports and panicked.

I'm just so exhausted. The earthquake hasn't stopped affecting us here, and the damage was pretty localised. It's been quite a long time and things are nowhere near back to normal and won't be for ages. But when I look at what's happening in Japan...

Just. Fuck.

Today I went in to visit Ness at her work and I purchased a new phone since my old one was a little dilapidated and the battery was annoying. New phone is wi-fi enabled and snazzy and I downloaded apps for my yahoo!mail and a few other things. It also has a Tim Minchin background (took me forever to find one that worked because it has to be really wide instead of long) and it plays a Sherlock Holmes ringtone when the phone rings. I enjoy this! So farewell to the Barbie Dream Phone. I shall miss you BDP. You were good to me and you rotated pictures of my favourite people (the ones I don't know in person...). Alas, the time has come to part ways.

On the uni front, I have finally enrolled but this is after the head of the program himself had to call me and assure me they would get onto getting me through the approval process right away. US student loans at an NZ university are frickin' FUN, I'll tell you what. But I can't complain too much. Without them, I'd be up shit creek with no degree. Well...with two degrees I don't use, instead of three with one I DO hope to use.

Miss my housemates. They're at Canterbury Faire and I remain home, alone with the cat! Ness came over to watch Sherlock and entertain me, which was awesome! <3 And now, since I spent almost all of yesterday sleeping (I was literally awake for about 6 hours of yesterday in total. and then I slept until 10:30 this morning...), I will spend the night drinking tea from my dragon tea pot and writing things with myself and trying not to panic about poor Queensland and the category 5 cyclone headed towards them :(. Just fuck, man.

Lara....why do you think it's a good idea to erase and synch your iPod to your new computer ten minutes before you are supposed to leave? You have nearly 4,000 songs on your new computer (so far) and you know it takes more than ten minutes to do that.

Really?

Seriously?

Not smart.

At least it is school holidays, so it doesn't matter if I don't leave before 8 today. This just means I won't have a half an hour sit-down in the foyer of the Social Work building. Which maybe isn't so bad afterall but I wish the thing would hurry up!

I am on a computer at Uni. The screen is odd and curved and old and hard to see and this keyboard...I'm trying not think about what is living under the letters I am using to form what can hardly be called thoughts. Seriously. Keyboard trolls could survive for months on the detritus that is festering between the 26 characters in the English language contained in this keyboard.

...it's 26 letters, yeah? No sleep makes Lara something something.

BUT I had a lovely discussion about socialism and Why Americans Are Silly because they are resisting 'socialist ideals' for all the wrong reasons. I.E. YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, NEENER NEENER! or...whatnot. Socialist reforms, according to our lecturer, saved NZ's arse after the depression. They're not always bad. I don't think ANYONE is trying to make the US into a socialist country, just you know...one that cares about it's citizens. And my classmate was saying that in the UK there are a lot of similar debates. She mentioned Thatcher while talking about something else, and then she spit and I laughed. She said, "I'm sorry, I can't say her name without spitting," and I said, "you just reminded me of a dear friend of mine," and it made me smile. Spitting made me smile for probably the first time ever, as it is largely disgusting.

ANYWAY I am too far gone to actually expand on any of the other issues we discussed, but it was nice to have a RATIONAL explanation with someone about this crap. You mention it to someone in the US who has a differing opinion, and suddenly people are insulting each other's mothers. But dear GOD you guys.

Something's gotta give.
