Today was actually lovely, despite my sincere hate for the day. I have always hated Thanksgiving. I used to get sick on it every year and my mother used to say my body was objecting to the holiday as much as my mind was. But it was nice to be with family I haven't seen in years, including my nephew Sean who is like 12 feet tall now, I swear. Even my step-sister who can be a Sourface McFussypants was in pleasant spirits. She actually seemed interested in my life. SHOCKER. And my nieces were good, amusing fun as always.

Then I came back online and found out my former boss, Doreen, passed away today. I worked under her in Australia and we had our ups and downs, but that was because she knew I was capable of awesomeness. So when I wasn't being awesome, she informed me. And bless her for it. When I said I might want to move, she supported me every single step of the way. She helped me apply, she sent a glowing letter of recommendation along, she checked in with me every day to see how I was doing with the decision since it was a pretty big one... She let Lewi and me housesit while she was on vacation once so we could get out of his parents house for a week. She treated me like I mattered and frankly, sometimes in Australia I needed to know that since Lewi and only a few others ever did. And she had no reason to go out of her way for me. She just did. She was a damn classy lady. I am so sad to know I'll never see her again. Not only was she classy, she was hilarious and fun.

When I got accepted to University of Canterbury, she cried and hugged me. She made everyone applaud me when I left. She made work feel like a second home. She was amazing and she will be so missed.

I'm in Sydney airport! And bored. And also tired. Which is why I decided against leaving the airport and heading towards The Rocks to have myself a gay old time in the oldest part of Sydney. I saw the opera house and the bridge when we flew in and decided that that was enough. Seen 'em before anyway! So now I am holed up in my own little corner of the airport, being freaked out by the nostalgia of Australia accents surrounding me everywhere omg. You guys. You guys, it's like when I lived here. Except I lived in Melbourne, but shhh, it's sense memory.

I managed to bagsie a plug and everything! LAPTOP AND FREE WI-FI TIME. It's 9:40 in the morning here and my flight for San Francisco doesn't leave until 4:20 pm. So I have a lot of time to waste. But hell, if anyone can do it, it's me. I might even watch shit. BECAUSE I CAN. Or Tumblr the fuck out of it. It being Time.

Or...heaven forbid...I could roleplay. Or work on apps. It'll be bonza, mate! (No Australians are allowed to shoot me here. I could say 'y'all' for you to calm you down if you like.)

I have been looking forward to going to the US because being here in the city of Aftershocks and Gloom hasn't been great for the old brainpan. But my trip to Te Anau and various made me feel so incredibly good. So now I'm all "wah, I have to leave my home for two months!" It does make it better than I get my family though :D But I will miss my friends and my cats and my house and my housemates and all the things. In the long run, two months isn't too long. Just feels like it right now!

So in 10 and a half hours I will wake up and take a shower and then I will head for the airport. Then I will be in Sydney before heading to the US. I get to see my cousin in San Francisco, and then my mommy in Helena, Montana. I can catch up on writing all the things, since there are few distractions in Montana, especially in winter.

I feel so much better though. It's...awesome. I just really needed to get out of this city, even though I love it so much. Touring the south island of NZ was amazing. This county is gorgeous and I think, despite wanting to leave it for the UK for a while, I think I kind of want to stay. We'll see how things go. But I feel at home here. It's lovely.

So now I have to clean my room for Woot to move in to it for two months. I should vacuum for him too, since the floor is covered with catfood. Echo is a messy eater. I can't wait until I can come back and cuddle the kitties again though! I will miss my babies!

It is hot today. As an aside. It's gross.

Finally closed my Australian bank account. I have been meaning to do this for months, back when there was like $20 in it. Now there is 4, which is pointless to transfer so I asked them to donate it to a charity. It was one of the options they gave me, though I feel ridiculous donating $4. But you know. It's better than nothing...

I have been tossing up writing up childhood stories. The (mostly) good ones, not the messed up ones. I grew up in a small town in the mountains and when I watch movies set in the 50s where kids are growing up it always makes me giggle because it was like that. Running all over town without worrying about safety really. Playing outside and not sitting in front of computers all the time. It would be an interesting writing exercise and I think we got up to some incredibly amusing and interesting things. And my memory is awesome, so I should write this shiz down while that is still true. Not that I am all "woe is me, I'm 30 and it's all downhill from here" because it's not. This isn't an age thing at all. It's just a desire to write it out.

Also I have quesadillas in the fridge. And tomorrow is fajitas and margaritas day (and also chocolate mousse if I can find the recipe). Life is good :D

Oh high speed internets. How I love you. Shiny new download limit...I love you too. Thank you. Thank you.

And my Lewi has a new computer, which can now end the him being offline thing! OMGZORSYAY.

So I was on the train the other day, and these peopel were talking so loud I could hear them over Joy Division and The Cure on my iPod which is just RUDE. But they were fucking hilarious.

Girl: OMG I LOVE House MD. I love that Hugh Jackman.
Boy: It's Hugh Laurie!
Girl: Oh...I thought his name was Hugh Jackman...
Boy: What kind of an Australian are you!?
Girl: Well I like that Jesse Spencer!
Boy: ....don't talk to me.

And then a few minutes later:

Girl: I think there's more 'team' things in High School in the US. Like...baseball team and those football teams.
Boy: I was on a footy team.
Girl: I was on the music team!
Boy: MUSIC TEAM!? You mean like a band?!
Girl: Uh-huh!
Boy: Music is for nerds.
Girl: No it's not! What about like...Eminem?!
Boy: Oh my god, go sit somewhere else!

Ahhahahhaha they cracked me up. And YAY more Sims expansion packs! *glee*
