I braved the mall for shopping. I had to take the bus (as ever). It is raining. Everyone was on the bus with me. Everyone in the world.

So...reading a book called Saint Patrick; Patron Saint of Ireland leads to weird looks on the bus. Usually from hoony teenagers, the bastards. I can only assume these people are looking at me and deciding I am some kind of fundie, since I do tend to look like a goddamn prude though I have NO idea why. If only they knew that my TimPod was playing Tim Minchin singing Inflatable You or Ten Foot Cock and a Few Hundred Virgins in my ears as I read about Patrick's religious experiences.

Might I also add that listening to that latter song, as well as So Fucking Rock while being literally surrounded by octogenarian women is a little uncomfortable. They are judging me with eyes full of wisdom!

I did some Christmas shopping, and yet I still need to get my flatmate presents next Monday. The LFoD are having a Tim Minchin Christmas and giving each other socks, jocks and chocolate. Because we're awesome.

And my TimPod played White Wine in the Sun when I was about nine minutes from home so it fit in perfectly at the end of the trip, leaving me feeling all lovely. Thanks, TimPod! You're the best!

I was looking up Tim Minchin photos on Google because, you know, I do that all the time now. And I found one of him in the RMIT theatre I believe he booked for the 2005 Melbourne Comedy Festival gig where the lady from Edinburgh saw him which jumpstarted his career. And I was looking at the photo and there's a sign in it that says 'Swanston Street' and it made me so homesick for Melbourne.

Damn you, Tim Minchin! ...I take it back, I love you forever.

That theatre was where we went to go see Chris' movie premiere and that is the street the beautiful bathhouses are on and Melbourne Central where the movies live. And that stupid fountain right in front of this theatre that looks like a post box and with the water shortages it can't run anyway most of the time. Which is fine. It's ass ugly. (EDIT: AHAHHA I found a photo which makes it look all fancy. It's nice. And even in the photo it's still just a square with water coming out. Usually there's garbage floating in it. Lovely.)

It's such a weird feeling being homesick for a place. I have never really been homesick for the US, despite missing the people. This time, it's kind of the other way around (PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFENCE TO THIS, seriously, I miss the people, but you are not my family) and I miss the place a lot. I do not miss water restrictions and overcrowded trains and rampant dinnertime racism and I am like...200% happier here. I love Christchurch. I love New Zealand. I still miss Melbourne.

So here. Have a little bit of Lara's Melbourne! )

I've been kicked out the living room as poor Leah is stretched out on the floor, sleeping. I think her room is too hot today. She looked so cute and I wanted to pet her head, but I think that is probably the opposite of helpful ;) SO now I get to try to eat dumplings in my bed. There is going to be soy sauce everywhere. Which is ignoring the main issue of dumplings in bed which might be my favourite thing ever!!

Saw Rhys Darby last night. And while he is not my favourite red-headed comedian, he was rather funny and I enjoyed his show. His support act was only funny about twice though, and terribly offensive and shouty at all other times. I never have been a fan of comedians who shout every single punchline. If you have to shout it, obviously the joke isn't funny on it's own. Let the material shout for itself! They all do it sometimes, which is fine. Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey do it with style. Rik Mayall annoys me (as clever as I think he is) because he shouts everything. This guy wasn't even funny when he was shouting. Augh.

Rhys Darby mentioned he had twittered a photo of Christchurch's Satan Parade. (Okay, it was a Santa Parade, but that typo is too amusing and I'm leaving it...) and I thought he was joking about the contents of said photo so I checked Twitter. He was not. Behold Rhys' Santa Parade photo from his Twitter feed. Oh, New Zealand. Really? Nothing like a sheep limo outside a cathedral.

Most of Rhys Darby's jokes were about Rhys Darby, but that was okay. I still left with sore lungs. From...laughing.

Also? Tim Minchin is all I ever listen to any more. My iPod is now a TimPod.

Watched Tim Minchin's Enough Rope interview on Youtube. It's in 3 parts (the first part is here if you are interested and the other parts you can get to on the side menu) and he is adorbs when he talks about his wife. "Sarah's nice, I like her". His views on religion are much like my brother's too. They do seem really alike in their wit, which makes me adore Tim all the more.

ANYWAY then I had banana cake that Laura made. And then this happened because Laura and Leah are watching The Fifth Element.

Me: "GARY OLDMANNNN! It's okay he's annoying in this movie."
Laura: "He's in this movie? Who is he?"
Me: "The bad guy."
Laura: "...I thought Gary Oldman was short. And black."
Leah: "...that's Gary Colman"

Cue me nearly choking on my cake.

I cannot sleep. My cat is mocking me because she has crawled into my bed and under the covers as if to say "HAHA I CAN SLEEP IN YOUR BED AND YOU CANNOT!"

Mind won't stop. I even wrote quite a long scene with Patrick in FS (it technically takes place tomorrow hush) to get him out of my HEAD because he was yammering on and on and that didn't work. I spent hours looking on Tumblr and found amazing things (Tim Minchin singing Single Ladies it was epic) and still NOTHING.

So I decided to watch Rock and Roll Nerd, the Tim Minchin Story because Alina gave it to us yesterday.

I cried practically the entire time. Oh, Tim. Oh, Tim!

I should explain one of the oddities of Lara. I don't like concerts. I find them boring because like...if you're going to listen to music, LISTEN to it and do other things at the same time. My mind never shuts off. It goesangogesandgoesandoges so if I watch a concert I get twitchy and jumpy and bored so easily and I just want to be doing something else about 4 minutes in. So while I think Tim Minchin is brilliant and I love his music, I haven't really watched his shows. It would be a bad idea until I know the songs by heart. Only then can I stop my stupid brain from flying all over the place because I can appease it by singing along. So I knew the songs sort of, but seeing Tim do his thing is not something I am familiar with even though I use him as a PB in several places now.

BUT THE THING!! He changed his look and he got so popular so fast and he was all "Seriously? O_O okay then..." and his WIFE and the baby (OMG I cried so hard it hurt) and he was just so...lovely. Lovely and real. And now I want to see all the live shows. Because I am, if nothing else, contrary.

Today:

I won an exercycle off of Trade Me which I find WAY TOO EXCITING FOR WORDS OKAY because it's blue and I WON SOMETHING

It is my niece's birthday here (even if it isn't in the US yet) and she is wonderful :D

I got a Magritte userhead for this LJ. YES this is amazing. It's Magritte even if you can't really see that there's an apple in front of the thing. I love it!

Now I get to make a PowerPoint for a presentation which I get to use the Tim Minchin song 'Prejudice' for. Which is pretty damn awesome, I have to say.
