My brother randomly came through town today to drop his dog Loki off here so we can dogsit for a few days. So I was woken up with "COME HUG YOUR BROTHER" and then my mother took me shopping for hours.
We wet to Wal-Mart where they were selling guns in plastic packages. They had pink ones. You know. Fer them gals. Bitches like pink. I couldn't believe it. I want to take my camera and take photos so I can show my NZ friends the glory that is the sporting section. <---Sarcasm. Also there was someone parked in the lot with a vanity plate that said "Ma Cow". So yep. I'm in Montana now. YEE YAW.
We also went to the store my niece works at so we could get a turkey for Racism Day (my mother had to listen to my ranting all day long, wheee) It was nice to see her! She's so grown up. I remember when she was 3. /old lady
And that's it. Being with my parents is awesome though. They're both lovely and hilarious. Even if Loki seems convinced I am some kind of alien and every time I move he growls. It has to be the hair. Don't hate on fake gingers, Loki. Are you some kind of dog-racist?! He doesn't mind me when I'm throwing a tennis ball for him. Just when I am hanging out inside. Le sigh.
Also, in Wal-Mart, my mother said "I have to get some balls for the dog. He needs some balls" And I couldn't stop laughing. She was generous enough to sigh and then ignore it instead of scolding me! Ah, love!
EDIT: Fixed my email inbox finally. Turns out I accidentally blocked the images mail uses to run with AdBlock when I was trying to block an ad on the side of it. LOLwhoops. I am so smrt. At least I figured it out!

Watson is terrified of my space heater that I use to keep my toes warm when I am at my computer. It makes a noise, a low whoosh noise, and he hates noise. Obviously this is my dog, because he acts just like me.
I am glad you are seeing all your people! It sounds like loads of fun! :D I am going to a rally on Racism Day and we are going to see how much adderall I have to take these days to talk without stuttering. Because I am Talking at this thing. :/

I didn't! I've been too busy with aftershocks and sleeping this year to see much of anything, which is sad. I will eventually though! Since I want to see it before I see Avengers. WHICH I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT.

I think Thor is one of the best they've done; almost as good as Iron Man. From the teaser they had at the end of Captain America, it's probably also the most vital to see before Avengers. I absolutely love the look of the Rainbow Bridge, and both Loki and Thor were perfect. A really stellar effort with something that could have been sooooo hokey.
I'm doing pretty well. Working on the LAST CHAPTER of my thesis, woot! Still had to get a six month extension, but the end is in sight, so that's a huge relief. Just finished up supervising exams at ACU as well, since I didn't get any teaching work this semester. Pretty hard up for money cos of all that, especially since Erin and I are talking about a holiday to London which will absolutely eradicate my funds if I go. But we will see...

OH YAY! End in sight is good. And GO TO LONDON and if you do, GO TO CAMDEN MARKETS. Of course, being able to afford it is important. Booking.com has a lot of specials on hotels and hostels if you want to book through there. That's what I did and some of the rooms were 50% off! And it tells you what things each hotel is closest too as well so you know if it's in the area you want to be. I stayed at a hotel that was like 5 feet from Euston Square underground station and it was brilliant because I could walk to Camden or Regents Park or the British Museum.
Blahblahblah London is bliss :D

So, you know London pretty damn well; what other things do you recommend? The Tower and the Museum, obviously... what else is good?

Definitely the tower (it's AMAZING) and the museum (which I didn't get to see but DO IT) and I would recommend the Globe theatre too. I think you would both find it fascinating since you do the Thespian thing! Even if you can't afford a guided tour, walking through it is amazing. But the tour was so worth it. And if you like silly scares, the London Dungeon is ridiculous but SO fun. As well as the Ghost bus. If you have to choose between them, the ghost bus takes you around the city and tells stories as well as being fun. And the London Dungeon is all in one place but it as re-enactments and rides and awesomeness. So it depends on what you are most interested in really! The Ghost Bus goes over my bridge too. This is Very Important. ;)
Clare, Jess and Lisa are also all in London too so you could look them up! And if you are in to Sherlock Holmes, his museum is on Baker Street. I didn't get to Madam Tussaud's wax museum because I think it's probably silly, but there's that to, if you feel like it, though I don't know if it's your kind of thing.
And I am sure there are clubs too! Since that's not my scene I wouldn't know where they are, but I have a feeling you could find them :D
OH OH OH OH And Covent Garden has cute little shops and it's just generally a nice little area. And it has bombass cookies which are so fucking good omg.

Basically I am so excited for you. I have always believed you would love it there. And I am SO JEALOUS you might get two weeks when I got one ;) But basically I think you will just have the best time. Eeeeiiii! Even if it turns out you can't go, definitely go some day! The entire time I was there I just kept thinking, "Lewi has to see this. HE HAS TO SEE THIS!"
There are also places like Trafalgar Square and then the West End which are just nice to walk around in. And Forbidden Planet is near Trafalgar Square I think. Or it's near Leicester Square. ...it's near a square, okay! And you should definitely stop by there as well! Just trust me on that ;)

I think the Globe will definitely have to be on our list. I couldn't really consider myself a self-respecting Shakespearean scholar or acting without at least poking my nose in. The Ghost Bus sounds more like our thing than the Dungeon, though it really depends on how full our schedule gets. Erin and I are walking our left-hand spiritual path together at the moment, so I'm sure we'd have some interesting experiences. (Remember the phantom light bulb in Sydney?)
I think I'd really enjoy Sherlock Holmes, but unfortunately I've never had a chance to read any of the stories, so Baker Street would probably be wasted on me. Though I wonder if there's any sort of Jack the Ripper tour around Whitechapel? There must be, surely...
I'd definitely love to hit up Slimelight, as far as clubs go. Apparently that is THE Goth club in London. Speaking of which, I will hopefully be having my first session as a DJ at Cab Noc next month, as they now run a thing called "So You Think You Can DJ." Naturally, my name will be DJ Crowley ;)

And OH YEAH! http://www.jack-the-ripper-walks.com/ They have lots of them and I am not sure which the best one is. But I am sure you could suss one out. It would be awesome to go on one! I think Sherlock Holmes would be your kind of thing, but yes if you haven't read the stories, it'd be a pointless venture :D Whitechapel though *drools* There wasn't time for me to do that but I want to some day. If you go you'll have to tell me how it is!

And it's basically THE gaming/comic book/Whedonverse/Sci-fi shop. And again, even if you want afford to spend money there (I didn't) it's AMAZING. Minotaur times 1,000. :D And once, Amanda Palmer did a ninja gig inside there!
And they do say the walkways on the top of My Bridge are haunted and there's a morgue under it (though you can't go in that I don't think) and I believe it's free to go up in the top of it. So you could give that a go even on the same day you did the Tower since it's right there. It'd be a nice view even if you didn't meet any ghosties :D

I was reading about the Sherlock Holmes tales while researching detective fiction, and I do want to read them someday. Just another thing to add to the list... I'm reading some H. P. Lovecraft at the moment, and then I finally want to read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
Speaking of Amanda, apparently she and Neil Gaiman are doing their New Year's thing in Melbourne this year! So can't wait...

Yeah, I read that Amanda is trying to get to Christchurch. She seems pretty determined, I think she'll figure something out.
Anyway, we just booked! We're going from the 2nd to the 15th of February, and staying in an awesome Victorian Gothic mansion! It's called Oakfield Estates. I don't suppose you know of any supernatural craziness attached to it? A bit of amateur Most Haunted wouldn't go astray... (Who am I kidding? Compared to us, they're the amateurs.)
And yes, I do have Jess on Facebook, so I might have a word. Good plan :)

AWESOOMMMEEEE YAYYYY! You will have the best time. I will look up Oakfield Estates. In the meantime, off the top of my head I think the most famous paranormal spots are Highgate Cemetary (The Highgate Vampire and Spring-heeled Jack) and of course, the Tower. And a lot of the underground tunnels, actually. And there's the theatre on Drury Lane, but I don't know if you can go in without like...going to a show.
If you want, when I get home in January, I can go through my ghosty reference books for you! I even have more now MUAHHAHAHHA! And most of them are about the UK. Even if you don't go to the places, it might be interesting to know where in London is reportedly haunted even if you just hear about those places in passing! And the idea of ghostly research makes me incredibly giddy :D I can send you an email list!
And Most Haunted are amateurs compared to everyone. But they are fun to watch scream like babies.

And thank you, I did have a good birthday! Erin made me pancakes in the morning, then we went to my place to play Guitar Hero, had dinner with my parents at Nardee, and then came home and watched Silent Hill. Then yesterday most of the posse went to the Tutankhamun exhibition at the Melbourne Museum as a joint birthday outing for me and our resident Egyptologist Shane, whose birthday is on the 30th. That was a pretty amazing experience; lots of relics from the tombs of Tutankhamun and his ancestors, including a golden ceremonial dagger, and the most beautiful scarab bracelet. The detail was exquisite. Some pretty cool deity statues, and an almighty sarcophagus, too; no mummies, though. Then after the exhibit we had a Middle Eastern dinner on Lygon Street, and though the food was pretty average, we also smoked some sheesha, and that was a lot of fun :)

I'm not sure if I spelt it right, but you smoke it from a hookah, and it comes in all sorts of flavours. We were smoking the apple stuff. It kind of tasted like spicy toffee apple. There's no narcotic effect or anything like that, which is why it's perfectly fine to smoke in the middle of a restaurant.
