A view of Christchurch from the hills the minute after the quake. I was in the middle of this and so were so many others.

That dust cloud is from collapsing buildings and it is just...so- Indescribable.

On the side of lovely things though, I called my workmates from ACU in Melbourne because they left panicked messages on my Facebook yesterday. It was so nice to talk to them. They put me on speaker phone and they all yelled "HI WE LOVE YOU HOW ARE YOU WE MISS YOU" and various word-clouds of loveliness. Then Lisa spoke to me for a good half an hour before they all got back on to say goodbye. They are so lovely, and I miss them!

Tonight I made a sort of spaghetti sauce out of tinned tomatoes and herbs and spices. It was a little weird, but good! And we ate more of Alison's Amanda-food. And we got water from a tattooed man at a primary school. But he wasn't creepy, he was lovely!

EDIT: A post on Leah's journal of our own photos here In the photo of our rainwater collection, my kitty is staring out the window at Alison taking the photo. She is ADORABLE. /biased.

The last tall building you can see on the right there is the Hotel Grand Chancellor which is on the street I was on and I was only a few blocks to the right of that. That building is now in danger of collapsing completely and every aftershock makes it worse, which is terrifying.

I am so wringing my hands too.

We love you too!

She is currently stalking pushpins and deciding they're bugs. She's not the brightest star in the sky, but I love her.

Holy shit! Shitting hell, that's intense! Omg! We were both in there! Fucking bollicking hell!
It's only just really starting to dawn on my just how fucking lucky we all were.

I don't have anymore words at the moment.

That photo has just stunned me.

Cath wants to know where did you find it?

We really were. Shitting hell indeed.

I found it on the Twitter feed on the news site, which I had only just glanced at. I just randomly clicked it and went "...oh."

It's on the Stuff.co.nz's collection of pictures for day 3 now as well.

oh and the kitty is super, super cute. She must be really freaked out by this all. My kitty - Billy - send his kittycat love to you all....

Definitely scary!

She's currently under the bed again, hiding from aftershocks. But yay, kitty love!

after looking at the "moment after" pic and the ones leah posted, wow. that's a bad situation. hopefulyl they'll get the basics (water!) back and running soon...

and what's with people buying milk and bread? milk i can understand, sure. it's an ingredient in many things. but bread goes bad so quickly... me, i'd be clearing outthe canned goods and packacged foods, bottled water that sort.

also - liqufaction. nasty business, that. explains alot of the damage.

We go through so much bread in this house, so I get the bread. But we're just going to make some, so that's not a problem! We have enough tinned stuff as well, but bread is so much nicer than tinned crap. We're trying to hold off on breaking into the emergency stash by eating everything else first!
