To be honest, I don't really think about someone's sexual orientation when I first meet someone, unless I want to get into their pants. I don't understand why it would bother someone. But then, I don't understand a lot of the things people seem to be bothered by (universal healthcare, gay marriage—you know, really outlandish concepts). Grah!
I always thought this kind of thing would only be a problem in high school, but apparently not. One of my flatmate's friends, upon hearing that she was a lesbian, said: "But you don't look gay!" ...Because that's totally the way it works.
